happy birthday little-g-man-poem

gavin had a little stuffed percy,

he won before the shamu show;

and everywhere that gavin went,

the stuffed percy was sure to go.

it followed him home from seaworld one day,

while he was visiting his auntie;

it made his parents giggle and say;

his uncle is sure a softie.

xoxo we love you very much little man xoxo

anthropologie-inspired capelet

a quick fix and highly recommended free pattern from peony knits blog. (thank you peony knits)

yarn:

5 balls rowan holiday in shale

1 hank of louisa harding thalia in #1 (above)

*a quick note about rowan holiday yarn- i choose it because i was looking for something that would work as a substitute that would be comfortable in the texas heat- it is a loose cotton gauze yarn that knits to the same gauge as the pattern.

my mods:

-added true raglan sleeve shaping

-lengthened by 3 inches in length & 1 inch to the width for a looser fit.

-ended last row (and c/o) of sleeves and body with thalia and added a single crocheted boarder on front sides for contrast.

looking for a bunny to adopt?

well the bunny i will adopt is a difficult choice of wonderful whimsy chocolate lovely bunnies.

or you can myo.

inspired from a william sonoma catalog~ little bunny gets a new life. rather than a tiny tasty morsel, he becomes a furry easter friend

trucks

trucks is a favorite word of my nephew. what can you make on a budget of $4.60 that involves trucks?

lolly pop mold $1.79
lolly pop sticks $1.79
large box of assorted crayons (non-toxic) $0.99

instructions can be found here.

notes:
1) the smell of melting crayon is horrible
2) it takes about 9-10 minutes to melt 6 crayons (enough for one mold) stir every 3 minutes.
3) don't freeze to cool- it will leave a white discoloration on the edges.

if i was a bag…

....this is the bag i would like to be. this fab find can be bought from seller beanblossom on etsy. i received mine in the post yesterday!

thank you beanblossom.

now if i was opal- this is the bag i would want to be… unfortunately she is sulking. perhaps she knows there is a opal look alike soft and chewable toy sitting above her safe from her hungry paws.

happy birthday connor

i can’t take credit for this great idea. blogger angry chicken came up with the simple idea of taking clothespins, baking twine and wooden stars to make custom picture hangers for children. i fell in love with the idea because being so far away from my little birthday boy means i don’t have the opportunity to see him often. maybe i will get lucky and he will hang a picture of me!

well happy birthday my little nephew- i love you very much.

off to sandbanks

took the ferry from sandbanks to studland for lunch.

sandbanks is the fourth most expensive place to live in the world (according to the bbc) and is a short ferry ride from studland... no- there was no sunning at their nude beach today it was off to a charming pub which serves good food and allows people and pups to warm by the fire.

valentines in the new forest xoxo

such an unusual place. we used to vacation here (when i say vacation i mean throw your dog and clothes in the car & pitch a tent when you get there). wild horses roam free, as do cattle, pigs and other wildlife.

and other goodies waiting at the house upon my return………….

the thought is to make these wonderful fingerless gloves from the new louisa harding accessories book. finding the yarn proved to be incredibly difficult. of the few shops we have in san antonio only one carries a few selections of her line of yarn. even the internet stockist proved to be equally as difficult.

part of the problem is that this pattern calls for 3 skeins of different wool. unable to find a shop in the states that had all three and in the colors given in pattern i ended up ordering them in the uk.

honestly now, they must have gone too far…

it is more than just driving on the wrong side of the road now..

- illegal to use your cell phone and drive, not a surprise- but what about smoking behind the wheel or drinking (and i don’t mean a pint) when one can’t enjoy a cold bottle of water or soda on your journey what will happen to all of the roadside convenience stations?

and then there is london’s congestion charge. from what i understand can range from 5gbp to over 200.

but in an effort to make these overly intrusive laws palatable they now have come up with the ultimate in driving pleasure- the tom tom navigation system which you can purchase the additional voices (and characteristic personalities) of well known celebrities like hrh the queen, sharon and ozzy osbourne and my personal favorite- john cleese. while i am sure it is illegal to do the ‘silly walk’ and drive at the same time you can listen to ‘something completely different’ and just drive as you should with both hands on the steering wheel.

or not- (different) just mind numbingly brilliant. if only my mini cooper would refer to it’s ownership as a bunch of germans? talk about an identity crisis!

even though he did not write the ‘revocation of independence’ he should have.

he is officially allowed to keep me company on any drive.

knitting old to new

new books arrive in the post.

loop a fantastic knit shop in london has published a book of their sample knits that you lust after while wandering through their shop. the book takes a look at knitting from simple to very difficult to knit, all expensive to create but worth every penny projects.

and then there is louisa hardings new book ‘knitting little luxuries

everything in this book has attention to detail for the new knitter to the experienced and gives you the flexibility of choosing yarns that fit your personality or budget.

my rowan kid classic san antonio scarf gets a new twist. thank you leigh for your introduction to the very difficult to knit but at the same time wonderfully simple

‘ruffles’. i added a simple flower knit in kid classic

with a floral accent i made from vintage plas

tic beads.

behavior

this is a ritual ms opal goes through each day to get our attention for food. it is the behavioral disorder “bad dog”.

characteristic signs of this disorder are counter jumping, floor scratching and food bowl abuse.

ahh but our little lady was not born with a long attention span….
